Faculty, alumni among U of T changemakers named to Influentials 2022 list

Ron Deibert, Notisha Massaquoi and Brigitte Shim are among the University of Toronto luminaries who have made Toronto Life's annual list of local changemakers.

The Influentials 2022 ranking spotlights 50 people in Toronto whose bravery, smarts and clout are making waves across the globe.

Deibert, a professor of political science in the Faculty of Arts & Science and director of the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, was recognized for “beating back cyber spies and nosy despots.”

Massaquoi, an assistant professor in U of T Scarborough’s department of health and society, made the list for her work to expose racism in policing, including her leading role on the advisory panel that shaped the Toronto Police Service’s race-based data collection policy.

Meanwhile, Shim, a professor in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, & Design, and A. Howard Sutcliffe were recognized as co-founders of the architectural firm behind some of the buzziest buildings in the city, per the magazine.

Other U of T community members on the list include alumni Margaret Atwood and John Tory, donor and Ethopic Studies supporter The Weeknd, former Rotman School of Management Dean Tiff Macklem and Minister of Defence Anita Anand, who is on leave from her position as a professor with the Faculty of Law, cross-appointed to the Rotman School of Management and Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy.
