Robert Austin and Marcus Law recognized with President's Teaching Awards

Robert Austin, a professor, teaching stream in the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies (CEES) at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy in the Faculty of Arts & Science, and Marcus Law, associate professor in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine's department of family and community medicine, are receiving 2025 President's Teaching Awards – the university’s highest honour for teaching excellence, educational innovation and educational leadership.
President’s Teaching Award recipients are given an annual professional development allowance of $10,000 per year for five years, and are designated as members of the university’s Teaching Academy for a minimum of five years. Academy members may be invited to participate in a range of university events including addressing convocation ceremonies, delivering public lectures, participating in conferences and new faculty orientations, or facilitating teaching and learning workshops.
Austin is known for placing great emphasis on the quality of student experience at U of T, and is a leader in the area of international partnerships and experiential learning abroad. Drawing on his experience as a journalist and historian in the Balkans and throughout eastern Europe, he frequently engages international guests to speak with his students, including diplomats, politicians and even the President of Kosovo.
Law's academic work and research focus on translating our understanding of how medical students develop expertise into effective educational design and implementing theory-informed large-scale curricular redevelopment in medical schools. His teaching and leadership as associate dean of the MD program at Temerty Medicine have been recognized with several awards for course/program development and coordination, as well as for teaching excellence.
