Six faculty members recognized with Cheryl Regehr Early Career Teaching Awards

Six faculty members at the University of Toronto have been recognized with 2024-25 Cheryl Regehr Early Career Teaching Awards.

The annual awards are given to faculty members who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to student learning, pedagogical engagement and teaching innovation.

They are named for Cheryl Regehr, a professor in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and a champion of teaching excellence and innovation who served as U of T’s vice-president and provost for a decade.

The award recipients are:

  • Lauren McLeod Cramer – assistant professor, Cinema Studies Institute, Faculty of Arts & Science

  • John De Backere – assistant professor, teaching stream, department of chemistry, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Naomi Levy-Strumpf – assistant professor, teaching stream, human biology program, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Aditi Mehta – assistant professor, teaching stream, urban studies program and department of geography and planning, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Shelby Riskin – assistant professor, teaching stream, assistant professor, teaching stream, department of ecology and evolutionary biology, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Lisa Zhang – assistant professor, teaching stream, department of mathematical and computational sciences, U of T Mississauga

The recipients will be honoured at the annual Excellence in Teaching Reception in the fall.
