Alex Mihailidis inducted into French Republic's Ordre des Palmes académiques

Alex Mihailidis, U of T's associate vice-president, international partnerships and a professor in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine's department of occupational science and occupational therapy and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, has been named a Chevalier (knight) of the Ordre des Palmes académiques by the French Republic.

The Ordre des Palmes académiques recognizes individuals for their service to the advancement of education and scholarship.

Mihailidis, who is cross-appointed to the department of computer science in the Faculty of Arts & Science, is renowned for leading interdisciplinary research at the intersection of aging, AI and assistive technology, and is the vice-chair, research at AGE-WELL, Canada’s technology and aging network. 

As U of T's associate vice-president, international partnerships, he has nurtured alliances with academic and industry partners across the globe, including France’s Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS).  

“Alex’s work exemplifies the impact biomedical engineering can have on society,” said Professor Milos Popovic, director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. “This recognition from the French government is well-deserved, and we are proud to see his global leadership acknowledged at the highest levels.”
