U of T welcomes 36 new Pearson Scholars from around the world

The University of Toronto has welcomed 36 new Pearson Scholars, representing 27 countries from around the world.

At an event at Hart House, U of T President Meric Gertler urged the first-year students to embrace all that U of T has to offer, and to explore the region around it. “I encourage you to immerse yourself in this very special environment and make the most of opportunities – in the classroom, on our campuses, but also in the communities around us,” he said.

The Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship program was established three years ago and is named for the former prime minister of Canada, who was a U of T alumnus and a Nobel laureate. The program recognizes international students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, creativity and leadership – and a commitment to making an impact in their communities. The scholarship covers four years of study at U of T, including tuition, books, incidental fees and residence support.
