Artem Babaian named 2025-2027 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar

Artem Babaian, an assistant professor in the department of molecular genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, has been named a 2025-2027 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar.
The CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars program aims to develop talented early-career scholars into influential research leaders.
Babaian was one of just 12 researchers selected through a highly competitive global process. His research focuses on developing new computational tools to analyze biological big datasets, exploring areas such as the genomics of RNA viruses and identifying fungal genes with cancer therapeutic potential. As a member of CIFAR’s Fungal Kingdom: Threats & Opportunities program, he joins a global network of leading scientists pursuing collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to critical biological questions.
