Kathi Wilson recognized by Canadian Association of Geographers

Kathi Wilson, a professor in the department of geography, geomatics and environment at the University of Toronto Mississauga, has won the Canadian Association of Geographers Award for Scholarly Distinction in Geography.

The annual award recognizes geographers whose work represents either a single major research contribution or sustained excellence in the field.

Wilson, a renowned expert in health geography, was recognized for her long-standing research program examining the links between environment and health, with a focus on Indigenous and immigrant populations in Canada. Her community-based research has helped illuminate geographic disparities in health outcomes and access to services among historically marginalized communities.

“As a champion of geography and a scholar who has dedicated my career to demonstrating the importance of everyday geographies for health, well-being and access to health care among immigrant populations, it is an incredible honour to receive this award,” says Wilson.

“Over the past 20-plus years at UTM, I have had the privilege to collaborate with scholars, trainees and an incredibly supportive network of community partners in Peel Region, all of whom made this career achievement possible.”
