Published: October 3, 2025
John Dick, senior scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network and University Professor of molecular genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, has been honoured with inclusion in Clarivate's Citation Laureates 2025.
The annual list, which is issued by U.K.-based data company Clarivate, acknowledges 22 researchers for the 2025 edition. They are honoured for doing highly cited work, considered to be of Nobel class, that has shaped science, society and global progress.
The only Canadian on the list, Dick is recognized for his work in physiology or medicine, specifically “for identifying leukemia stem cells and establishing their relevance in therapy failure and disease recurrence, thereby shifting the focus for many types of cancer and their treatments."
Clarivate notes researchers named Citation Laureates "exemplify excellence and influence at the highest level," and that their work "stands alongside that of Nobel Prize recipients in its reach and significance."
Dick becomes only the seventh U of T researcher to be named a Citation Laureate, joining Stephen Scherer, Sajeev John, Anthony Pawson, James Till and Ernest McCulloch.
