Janelle Brown-Walkus and Linda Bùi named McCall MacBain Scholars

Two University of Toronto alumnae have been named McCall MacBain Scholars for 2022.

Janelle Brown-Walkus, who graduated with a master of science degree from the Faculty of Dentistry in 2021, and Linda Bùi, who graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 2018 from U of T Scarborough, will head to McGill University in the fall to study dentistry and public policy, respectively.

Their outstanding achievements, skills, potential and character landed them the prestigious awards, which founders John McCall MacBain and Dr. Marcy McCall MacBain modelled after the Rhodes Scholarship. Six other U of T graduates and students received runner-up awards.

Brown-Walkus says she is looking forward to studying for her doctor of dental medicine on her way to a career improving oral health care for Indigenous communities.

“U of T developed my dream to become more than just a practising dentist, but to work in policy,” she says. “I was so thrilled to hear about winning the McCall MacBain Scholarship. It means a lot to me because I wanted so much more than just the curriculum and hands-on training. I wanted to have an environment where I can thrive and become a leader in dental public health.”
