Graduate student Sam Cherniak has received the American Water Works Association Best Student Award for his paper, “Towards a Standardized Sampling and Analysis Protocol for Microplastics in Drinking Water.”

The award, which recognizes a student whose technical paper and conference presentation best communicate the student’s research objectives, methods, results, conclusions, and applicability of the research to the water community, was presented to Cherniak last month at the AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference in Dallas.

Cherniak, a master’s student in the department of civil and mineral engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, is supervised by Professor Robert Andrews of civil and mineral engineering and Professor Chelsea Rochman of the department of ecology and evolutionary biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science.
