A film screening at the University of Toronto raised $30,000 for Innis College's Ukrainian Community Scholars at Risk Award, the Globe and Mail reported.

The fund supports refugees whose education was disrupted by conflict or war, and who wish to continue their studies at U of T – with priority given to scholars from Ukraine.

In April, Innis College screened the Oscar-nominated documentary, Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, and welcomed its director Evgeny Afineevsky for a question-and-answer session.

“I was filled with gratitude and pride at seeing so many people gathered, in-person and virtually, in recognition and support of the Ukrainian student community,” student Yaryna Datsyuk told the Globe.
