Negotiators for the University of Toronto and the United Steelworkers have arrived at a new tentative agreement.

“I am pleased to announce that a tentative renewal collective agreement was reached early this morning with the USW Local 1998 Staff Appointed bargaining unit,” said Kelly Hannah-Moffat, the university’s vice-president of human resources and equity.

The USW represents approximately 4,300 full and part time administrative employees across all UofT campuses.

The USW bargaining team is unanimously recommending this agreement for ratification. An employee information meeting will take place later this week and the vote is planned for September 11. Time and location of the meeting and voting locations will be communicated by the USW shortly.

“We encourage all staff appointed employees who are USW members to attend the meeting and to vote,” Hannah-Moffat continued. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the university and union bargaining teams for their commitment, hard work and long hours.”

Bargaining between the university and the union began May 29.

The university has 23 collective agreements with 11 different unions; 13 agreements are up for renewal in 2017.
