The University of Toronto's Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) team has been recognized as a silver winner in the OHS Team of the Year category at the 2026 OHS Canada Honours.
Presented by OHS Canada, a national media brand focused on workplace safety, the annual awards recognize best-in-class workplace safety practices and professionals.
"Being recognized on a national stage as the OHS Team of the Year silver winner is a tremendous honour that reflects the deep dedication of our entire team," said Gina Trubiani, executive director, occupational health and safety in the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, part of the division of the vice-president, research and innovation. "At the University of Toronto, embedding health and safety into the fabric of our diverse, world-class institution is a collaborative effort. This award from OHS Canada is a testament to the hard work, expertise and passion our team brings every day to ensure a safe, healthy and thriving environment for our faculty, staff and students."
Leah Cowen, U of T's vice-president, research and innovation, and strategic initiatives, said the award is a "wonderful recognition" of the OHS team's dedication to the safety of the U of T community and its broader leadership in the field. "The team, under Gina Trubiani’s leadership, has done a phenomenal job of continually improving our health and safety protocols," Cowen said. "Please join me in congratulating them on this well-deserved recognition."
The U of T team was recognized at the OHS Canada Honours gala at Toronto's Palais Royale on Sept. 24.
