U of T faculty members, alumni elected Canadian Academy of Engineering fellows

Six faculty members and four alumni of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering have been elected 2026 Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE).
The fellowships recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession and provide strategic advice on matters of national importance.
The U of T recipients were recognized for leadership and impact across a broad range of fields including robotics, artificial intelligence, distributed computing, biomedical engineering, assistive technologies, materials science, mining, energy and advanced manufacturing.
The faculty members elected 2026 CAE Fellows – all full professors – are:
- Timothy Barfoot, U of T Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS)
- Dimitrios Hatzinakos, Edward S. Rogers Sr. department of electrical and computer engineering
- Hans-Arno Jacobsen, Edward S. Rogers Sr. department of electrical and computer engineering
- Alex Mihailidis, department of occupational science and occupational therapy, Temerty Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Biomedical Engineering
- Goldie Nejat, department of mechanical and industrial engineering
- Steven Thorpe, department of materials science and engineering
