Thomas Coyle receives Connaught Special Initiative Award

Thomas Coyle, an associate professor in the department of materials science and engineering in the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, has received a Connaught Special Initiative Award for 2025-26.

Supported by the Connaught Fund, the largest internal university research funding program in Canada, the Special Initiative Award was given to Coyle in recognition of the potential of his research program to "create meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups and to strengthen collaborative frameworks that support diversity and fairness across disciplines."

Coyle will receive $250,000 in support of his research project, "Supporting SHIFTS in Research Practices: Adapting an inclusive research self-assessment tool to foster inclusion and track progress in academic research."
