Markus Stock receives Hermann Boeschenstein Medal

Markus Stock, a professor in the department of Germanic languages and literatures in the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science and principal of University College, has been recognized with the Hermann Boeschenstein Medal, presented by German Studies Canada.

Named after the late former U of T and University College professor Hermann Boeschenstein, the medal is awarded only on occasion to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the field in a humanitarian spirit.

Stock was recognized for his leadership, research, teaching and service to German studies in Canada and internationally.

“This is the honour of a lifetime," said Stock. "I have found such a strong community and lifelong collegial friendships in German Studies Canada. It’s wonderful to be nominated by colleagues and students in this way.”

“Markus has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the discipline and its allied fields in Canada and internationally, including stewarding its future,” said Carrie Smith, former president of German Studies Canada. “He was deeply involved in the collaborative work to expand our organization’s scope while his presidency coincided with substantial legal work and achieving consensus among members.”
