Farhan Asrar receives Ontario Medical Association's Innovator Award

Farhan Asrar, an associate professor in the department of family and community medicine in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the division of clinical public health in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, has earned the 2025 Innovator Award from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).

The award celebrates individuals whose work improves the lives of Ontario’s physicians and patients via innovation in clinical practice, policy, advocacy, education or system leadership.

Asrar, who is also the physician research lead in the family medicine teaching units in the Credit Valley Hospital and Mississauga Hospital, part of Trillium Health Partners, is recognized as a leader in the development of educational tools and a champion of physician and resident wellness.

Dominik Nowak, OMA past president and chair of the OMA awards and recognition committee, said Asrar’s award was “in recognition of your outstanding contributions in a variety of areas working to make the lives of Ontario’s doctors better – a reflection of the deep respect and admiration you have earned from your peers and colleagues.”

Asrar said he was honoured by and grateful for the OMA recognition. "To all learners, colleagues and faculty, my advice is to keep learning, lead with purpose and never hesitate to innovate," he said. "This is how we’ll shape the future of health care and build healthier communities."
