Daniel Drucker recognized with Lefoulon-Delalande Foundation Scientific Prize

Daniel Drucker, a senior investigator at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health and University Professor of medicine in the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, has been recognized with a 2026 Lefoulon-Delalande Foundation Scientific Prize.
Awarded by the Lefoulon-Delalande Foundation at the Institut de France, the annual prize recognizes scientists who have made major contributions to cardiovascular physiology, biology or medicine.
The 2026 prize was jointly awarded to Drucker and Jens Juul Holst of the University of Copenhagen for their research on glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). The two laureates and their laboratories will share €600,000 (around $975,000).
Drucker's research established key actions of GLP-1 in regulating blood glucose and appetite and contributed to the development of GLP-1-based medicines for type 2 diabetes and obesity. He also demonstrated that GLP-1 can have beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system independent of weight loss or glycemic control, findings later confirmed in clinical studies.
