Alicia Battaglia recognized by American Chemical Society

Alicia Battaglia, a postdoctoral researcher in the department of mechanical and industrial engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, has been named a 2026 CAS Future Leader by CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
The CAS Future Leaders program recognizes outstanding PhD students and postdoctoral researchers with strong potential for scientific leadership. Participants receive leadership training, networking opportunities and the opportunity to present their research at the ACS Fall Meeting.
Battaglia earned a PhD from the department of chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science, conducting research on sustainable energy technologies at the intersection of chemistry and materials science. She is now continuing interdisciplinary research while advancing work to improve carbon dioxide electrolysis.
"If I could contribute to solving one major problem, it would be addressing climate change," Battaglia said. "For me, that means developing materials that can support more sustainable energy systems and reduce the environmental impact of existing technologies.
"I think what’s exciting about chemistry is that it operates at such a fundamental level – small changes in materials design can ultimately translate into large-scale impact. Being able to contribute to that kind of progress is something I find really motivating."
