4 faculty members receive Black Research Network fellowships

Four University of Toronto faculty members have been named recipients of the Black Research Network (BRN) Faculty Fellowship 3.0

The year-long program provides $10,000 to support tenure- and teaching-stream faculty in advancing scholarship in any academic or multidisciplinary field. Since its launch in 2023, the fellowship has advanced faculty research agendas with $110,000 in funding.

This year’s fellows will also serve on the Black Research Network Advisory Committee (BRNAC), which brings together Black-identified members at different stages of their academic careers to shape BRN programming, foster collaboration and strengthen community partnerships. 

The recipients of the BRN Faculty Fellowship 3.0 are:

  • Derefe Chevannes – assistant professor, department of political science, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Nadège Compaoré – assistant professor, department of political science, U of T Mississauga
  • Hadiya Roderique – assistant professor, department of arts, culture and media, U of T Scarborough
  • SA Smythe – associate professor, Faculty of Information
