BUILDING A DYNAMIC R&D INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Multidisciplinary Foundation

    • Four engineering disciplines, chemistry, physics and mathematics combine synergistically in Nanotechnology to form novel structures and systems, leading to new applications and processing technologies.

  • World-Class Research at CAN

    • Critical Mass

      • Professor Harry Ruda, Director and Endowed Chair, an internationally recognized expert in the field with over 20 years of nanotechnology research experience.

      • Fourteen principal researchers (including a Nobel laureate and two Canada Research Chairs) with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, establishing a core competence in state-of-the-art nanotechnology research.

    • State-of-the-Art Facilities

    • Dynamic Network of Collaborations and Partnerships

      • Since 1997, CAN has expanded and enhanced collaborations in Canada and abroad with many academic institutions, government research centres, and high-technology industrial partners.

  • Responsive Scientific Management Structure

    • When developed as envisioned, CAN will:

      • Play a leadership role in developing a high profile for Canada in nanotechnology by expanding programs to promote awareness of issues, attract research dollars and high-technology industry.

      • Provide a self-perpetuating source of research leaders for industry and academia, capable of responding to changes in the field.
