| How to Initialize your SecurID Card |
Before using your SecurID card for the first time you need to initialize it.
This is done using a simple procedure and the Telnet program included with Windows 95/98.
- From the Start Menu choose Run.
- In the Run dialog box type:
telnet splash.utcs.utoronto.ca 4357
- Click OK and the Telnet window should open.
- You should see a Username: prompt, enter your SecurID username.
- You should see a SecurIDPasscode: prompt, enter the first number displayed
on your card after hitting the P on the card. Don't worry if hitting P doesn't
appear to do anything, that just means the number displayed is a "cleared state" number and thats the number to enter.
- You should see a New SecurID Pin (4-6 digits) [####]: prompt, enter the PIN you are going to use. DO NOT USE LEADING ZEROS on your PIN. Your PIN WILL display
on this screen so make sure you are doing this in private for security reasons.
- When you hit enter you should get a Connection to Host lost dialog message BUT still displayed on the screen should be the New PIN Accepted message.
- From now on, when prompted for a passcode you should USE this PIN, key it into your SecurID card and press the diamond symbol to GENERATE a passcode!
