South Africa Urban Policy Development Project

June-August 1996

A team of urban experts from UTUI, as part of the Centre for Urban and Community Studies, was contracted by the IDRC (International Development Research Centre) in a consulting capacity in South Africa to:

1. Assist the South African Urban Development Policy Task Team with drafting the Government of South Africa's White Paper on Urban Development Policy to be published by the Department of Housing;
   
   
2. Provide specialized advisory and technical assistance in the areas of Sustainable Cities, Urban Finance, and Urban Governance and Housing to the Government of South Africa;
   
   
3. Facilitate and lead discussion at an urban strategy workshop.
