The University College Writing Centre invites applications for up to two Teaching Assistant positions in a writing centre. These eight-month positions will commence 1 September 2012 and end on 30 April 2013.

The main responsibilities of these positions are to counsel students individually and in small groups on university writing, especially on organization, reasoning, style, and language use. Teaching Assistants can expect to see students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines. Teaching Assistants may be asked to prepare instructional material and to deliver group instruction. Some positions may involve the delivery of writing instruction in the first-year course UC One.

The UC Writing Centre encourages applicants with relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one or teaching in university courses (preferably at the University of Toronto) with a writing component. Previous experience in a writing centre is not essential, although such experience would be an advantage, as would training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level. Experience studying or teaching science would be an asset.

These positions are open to registered graduate students at the University of Toronto. They will consist of at least 70 hours (negotiable) at $41.23 per hour plus 4% vacation pay and is subject to budgetary approval. Terms of employment will be in accordance with the current collective agreement between the University and CUPE, Local 3902 Unit 1.

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
