The Transitional Year Programme at the University of Toronto will begin accepting applications on February 1st, 2012. The deadline for applying to the Transitional Year Programme is Wednesday, May 1st, 2013. All the required forms (electronic and paper) must be received on or before Wednesday, May 1st, 2013.
In addition to sending us a completed application package, you must also submit an electronic version of your Application Form along with your Personal Statement as deltailed in STEP 2.
STEP 1: Attend Information Session
All applicants must attend an information session held between January and April 2012. We hold information sessions on a regular basis at TYP, from late January to the end of April. They are held at our office, at 49 St. George Street, Toronto, ON, M5S 2E5.Click here for a list of dates.
We will collect your contact information at that time, and match it with your application. It is extremely important that you notify us if your contact information has changed. Failing to do so may result in significant delays while processing your application.

- Application Form
- Personal Statement
- Original transcripts
- Proof of Status (applies to non-citizen Permanent Residents of Canada or Convention Refugees ONLY)
- Two (2) References - TO BE SENT DIRECTLY FROM THE INDIVIDUALS WRITING YOUR REFERENCE
STEP 3: Upload electronic Application Form and Personal Statement

STEP 4: Supervised Writing Sample
Once you have submitted all application materials, you will be asked to come to TYP to provide a supervised writing sample. You will have to write a short piece on a topic we propose in a limited time. NO SPECIAL PREPARATION IS NECESSARY. Please call us at (416) 978-6832 to register for the written sample.
Your application will not be considered complete until the writing sample is provided.
NEED HELP?
There will be someone to help with completing the application online on Thursday and Friday afternoons. We can also provide computers (2 at a time), and will walk you through the process – first come, first served. Please be prepared to answer detailed information about your employment history, education history, and contact information before arriving. Be sure to have an electronic copy of your personal statement (either email it to yourself, or bring it on a USB memory key).
