TYP008H1F: Stories and Legends in Literature
This course will introduce students to the study of literature through the story, story collection/novel and legend as part of the literary tradition with roots in different cultural settings. It will examine the themes, structure and contexts of these stories and encourage students to discuss issues raised and appreciate the value of this form of literature. It will also pay attention to the oral tradition in some cultures. Works studied will be selected from different backgrounds, including Native, contemporary Canadian, African and Caribbean, and stories by women. Students will be required to do written work as well as oral presentations on the literature.
