The Toronto Film Society presents a Double Bill starting at 2 pm featuring: SING YOU SINNERS (1938, 88 minutes Director: Wesley Ruggles; Starring: Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Donald O'Connor) Solid entertainment with easy-going Bing prodded by his brother (MacMurray) for his lack of work ethic. Followed by: THE GREAT AMERICAN BROADCAST (1941, 92 mins Director: Archie Mayo; Starring: Alice Faye, John Payne, Jack Oakie, Cesar Romero) The history of radio is used as a background for a tuneful film, loaded with specialty acts. Jack Oakie is in top form and this one is fine entertainment. Please visit here for more details
January 15

The Toronto Film Society presents a double bill starting at 2 p.m. featuring: THANK YOU, JEEVES (1935, 57 minutes Director: Arthur Collins; Starring: Arthur Treacher, David Niven, Virginia Field P.G.) Wodehouse's impeccable butler, brilliantly portrayed here by Treacher, and his master become involved in a neat bit of intrigue in this very entertaining comedy-mystery. Followed by: THE HUCKSTERS (1947, 115 minutes Director: Jack Conway; Starring: Clark Gable, Deborah Kerr, Sydney Greenstreet, Ava Gardner) A neat dig at advertising with idealist Gable battling despotic company head Greenstreet. Highly entertaining, with an exceptional cast which includes Kerr in her American film debut. Please visit here for more details.
February 12

The Toronto Film Society presents a Sunday double bill screening at 2 pm featuring: GLAMOUR BOYS (1941, 79 minutes Director: Ralph Murphy; Starring: Jackie Cooper, Susanna Foster, Darryl Hickman) A very appealing satire on Hollywood featuring Jackie Cooper as a former child star (which he was) coaching a new film prodigy. Susanna Foster (pre The Climax And The Phantom Of The Opera) sings beautifully. Fun and action galore in this rare little film. Followed by: THE PAJAMA GAME (1957, 101 minutes Director: George Abbott; Starring: Dorris Day, John Raitt, Carol Haney) A critic said this adaptation of the Broadway musical hit virtually defines the word "exuberance". A lively, infectious story about a strike at a pajama factory with most of the Broadway cast intact (Day replaces Janis Paige) Many hit songs ("Hey There", "Hernado's Hideaway") and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Please visit here for more information.
