The Toronto Film Society presents a double bill starting at 2 p.m. Featuring: Frenchman's Creek(1944, 113 min, Director: Mitchell Leisen. With Joan Fontaine, Arturo De Cordova, Basil Rathbone.) Dashing, swashbuckling Frenchman pirate pits his wits and sword against villainy on the Cornish coast. Fontaine is delicious as the damsel in this glorious Technicolor romp. Followed By: The Black Arrow (1948, 76 min Director: Gordon Douglas. With Louis Hayward, Janet Blair, George Macready.) At the close of the War of the Roses, a young man returns to find his father mysteriously murdered. Treachery lurks in every scene as the hero plunges deeper into intrigue and closer to his revenge. The Toronto Film Society presents a double bill starting at 7:30 p.m. Featuring: A Lady Takes a Chance (1943, 86 min Director: William Seiter. With Jean Arthur, John Wayne, Phil Silvers.) A wide-eyed city gal hooks up with a rough and ready rodeo cowboy on her bus vacation, but she has to compete with his sidekicks--including his horse. Followed By: Salty O'Rourke (1945, 99 mins. Director: Raoul Walsh. With Alan Ladd, Gale Russell, William Demarest.) After his partner leaves Salty holding a big bag of debt, the smooth talking conman dreams up a complicated plot involving a banned jockey, an un-rideable horse and a big race.
