The Tolstoy-Estate Museum at Iasnaia Poliana would like to announce the fourth in the series of international Tolstoy conferences Tolstoy and World Literature to be held at the estate next summer, August 22-26, 2005. The conference will be dedicated to the memory of Academician Lidiia Dmitrievna Gromova-Opulskaia, who passed away December 31, 2003. There will be a roundtable discussion devoted to Kathryn Feuer's The Genesis of War and Peace which has been published in Russian by Akademicheskii Proekt. Proposals for papers to the conference should be submitted by March 1, 2005, by email to Galina Alexeeva (galalexeeva@tula.net) or Donna Orwin (donna.orwin@utoronto.ca). Those who need an invitation for a scholar's visa from Iasnaia Poliana must submit their application by February 1. Once the application is accepted, they must fax or send a copy of the front page of their passports in order to receive the invitation, which may take two months or longer to obtain. Papers by foreign participants should be no longer than 20 minutes, and should be read in Russian or English. Participants must pay for their own transportation to and from Russia. The Museum will provide bus service to and from Iasnaia Poliana to Sheremetevo Airport. Participants will be housed at a hotel near the Museum grounds for a minimal fee, and meals during the conference will be provided by the Museum. A bus will meet the participants in the conference in Moscow, on Prechistenka St., 11 (State Museum of Tolstoy), at 3 pm, on the 21st to drive to the YP hotel. If somebody arrives a day or two earlier, a bus will meet them in Sheremet'evo to bring them to YP. All the participants will pay a conference fee of $100 (2800 roubles) to cover partially the expenses for the hotel at YP, food, transportation from Moscow and back, and the cultural program.
