review process

• Applications are peer-reviewed by a team of experts without conflict of interest. Conflict of interest is defined as standing to benefit by the award of a trainee stipend, such as by supervising and/or co-supervising a trainee applying to the program.
  
  
• Applications are scored based on the excellence of:
  
  
  1. The trainee– training and academic record, research experience, letters of reference;
     
     
  2. The supervisors and research environment– track record, training environment and commitment to the project; and,
     
     
  3. The research project– scientific merit, collaborative effort between laboratories and timeline, fit with the core aims of the Program, and a clear statement of why the trainee should be funded from the Program and not an individual operating grant.
     
     
• Ethics approval is required for all projects and is a condition of funding. No funding will be released by the Program Coordinator without the relevant documentation.
  
  
• Funding duration will be for one year with the opportunity for competitive renewal, but will not exceed two years.

  To ensure that the best science is funded, only those applications that exceed a minimum threshold rating, to be decided by the evaluation committee, will be eligible for support.
