ELEMENTARY POLISH

The course will teach you the basics of Polish grammar and vocabulary. Its objective is to develop language skills at the beginner’s level through intensive speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Moreover, you will learn about Polish culture and customs, listen to Polish songs, watch video materials, etc. By the end of this course you should be able to carry a basic conversation in Polish, to write a simple letter or email and to talk about yourself and about your family in Polish, to talk about various everyday activities, to use basic vocabulary associated with shopping and travelling in Poland, etc. Open only to students with very little or no knowledge of the language.

INTERMEDIATE POLISH

The goal of this course is to develop your Polish language skills through intensive speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Its objective is to expand your Polish vocabulary and introduce the basics of stylistics. Elements of Polish culture are also examined in the context of language and communication through readings of authentic texts which form the basis for the discussions. The course uses authentic Polish materials (newspapers, short stories, poems, radio programs, movies, and songs).
Prerequisite: Grade 13 Polish/SLA 106Y or permission of the instructor.

ADVANCED POLISH I

The goal of this course is to further develop your Polish language skills through intensive speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Elements of Polish culture are also examined in the context of language and communication through reading of authentic texts which form the basis for discussions. During the course authentic Polish materials are used (newspapers, short stories, poems, radio programs, movies, songs). Moreover, you will expand your Polish vocabulary (including phraseology), learn about word structure and detailed description and identification of the main parts of speech. It is an intensive writing course focused on improving writing skills.
Prerequisite: SLA 206Y or permission of the instructor.

SLA 336H
ADVANCED POLISH II

This course is a continuation of SLA 306H. Its goal is to further develop your Polish language skills through intensive speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Elements of Polish culture are also examined in the context of language and communication through reading of authentic texts which form the basis for discussions. The course uses authentic Polish materials (newspapers, short stories, poems, radio programs, movies, songs). Moreover, you will expand your Polish vocabulary (including idiomatic expressions), learn about sentence structure and how to identify and define the main parts of the sentence. It is an intensive writing course focused on improving writing skills.
Prerequisite: SLA 306H or permission of the instructor.
