Professor Mark Dockstator, Chair, First Nations Statistical Institution, Trent University Dr. Mark S. Dockstator is a status Indian and a member of the Onyota’a:ka (Oneida) Nation of the Thames. His mother is from the Six Nations reserve and his father is from the Onyota’a:ka Nation of the Thames. Professor Dockstator is a professor of Indigenous Studies at Trent University, located in Peterborough, Ontario. He currently teaches in the areas of Indigenous Knowledge, Indigenous Politics and has a specialty in Aboriginal Governance and Indigenous Economic Development. Dr. Dockstator received his doctorate in law from Osgoode Hall Law School, with his dissertation entitled “Toward an Understanding of Aboriginal Self Government.” Prior to teaching at Trent University, Dr. Dockstator owned and operated a number of businesses in Ontario, in addition to being involved with the development of Casino Rama with the Mnjikaning First Nation. Professor Dockstator also operates a consulting company that specializes in Aboriginal-based research and has been involved in a number of major research projects involving First Nation issues. In 2007, Professor Dockstator was appointed chairperson of the newly formed First Nations Statistical Institute (FNSI) to lead the provision of analytical services to benefit First Nations and all other levels of government. FNSI is one of four First Nation institutions created through the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act. FNSI, as a First Nation-led initiative, establishes an institutional framework to provide First Nation governments with the practical tools to stimulate private investment and develop statistical information for First Nations. The Institute will improve the quality, accuracy and relevance of data and encourage greater usage of First Nations statistics for all parties by:
