ASSOCIATE ORGANIZATIONS - Terms of Reference
Improving the Quality of
Life of Canadian Seniors Project
Role
Associate Organizations in each of the 8 localities1 support the
objectives of the project and contribute to its overall effectiveness in any of
a number of ways.
Membership
Associate Organizations are formal or informal organizations of people that:
- Advocate on behalf of seniors about issues of importance to seniors
- Provide service(s) to seniors
- Develop and/or set policy for issues relevant to seniors
- Support seniors and issues of importance to seniors in other ways
Associate Organizations may designate one person or more than one person to
represent them.
Accountability
The project is directed in each of the 8 localities by a Seniors
Coordinating Committee which hires a project coordinator (for the Toronto
project the project coordinator is Ivan Brown). This committee is responsible
for directing the design and implementation of the project. The Seniors
Coordinating Committees take advice from Advisory Committees made up of
seniors organizations and other support organizations. Associate
Organizations and their designate(s) are responsible to the communities,
organizations, and/or seniors they represent. They are also responsible for
supporting the goals of the project.
Responsibilities
To support the overall objectives of the project
To contribute to the overall effectiveness of the project through one or
more of the following activities:
- engage in activities that support the goals of the project
- work with the Seniors Coordinating Committee and Advisory Committee to
plan and carry out the implementation stage of the project
- distribute information about the project to seniors
- gather information relevant to the project from seniors
- provide ideas to the project coordinators
- offer advice relevant to the success of the project’s goals
- engage in cooperative activities with other associate organizations,
members of the Advisory Committee, Seniors Coordinating Committee, and/or
other organizations related to seniors issues
- make in-kind contributions of various types
- other activities that support the goals of the project
Contact/Meeting
We invite organizations and individuals associated with the project to
interact through our internet site (www.utoronto.ca/seniors). Associate
Organizations are invited to be listed on the site, provide contact and other
information about their organizations, and contribute to the site’s content.
Associate Organizations will also have opportunities to interact in other
written, verbal and electronic forms.
As the project progresses, associate organizations may be invited to
participate in one or more meetings to discuss varied aspects of the project.
