Update - April 2000
- We have completed phase 1 of our project. Our Action Plan, and Speak up,
Speak Out (which is a guide to social action for seniors) appear on the
national project web site and also on the Seniors' Education Centre web
site.
- Copies of these documents have been presented to Judy Junor, the
minister responsible for seniors in Saskatchewan. We have written two letters to all
other relevant cabinet ministers and city councillors.
- In addition to Ms. Junor's visit, several city councillors, the Leader of the Opposition, several
deputy ministers and miscellaneous other folks have visited the Seniors'
Education Centre to get more information about the project.
- We have now moved into phase 2 of our project. Jayne Whyte, who was the
research assistant during phase 1 has been contracted to coordinate phase 2
activities. Her e-mail address is jayne.whyte@sk.sympatico.ca
.
- Our work during phase 1 included development of a workshop outline and a script for a
presentation. (These also appear on the web site.) During phase 2, Jayne will be identifying community groups that would
welcome a workshop or a
presentation on this topic. Then she will be organizing and training teams
of seniors to deliver the workshops and presentations. Our script and
workshop outline will, of course, be modified to suit the situation, but
they provide a starting point.
