PART 2 - Workplace-Specific Hazard Training

Designated JHSC members who have successfully completed Part 1 Basic Certification Training are eligible to obtain Part 2 Workplace-Specific Hazard Training. Part 2 training allows a member to receive training in the particular hazards that may be present in the workplace covered by the individual committee. Both Part 1 and Part 2 training programs are required in order for the JHSC member to become fully certified.

For Part 2 training:

  • In order to determine the training needs for certified members, the employer is required to conduct a workplace hazard assessment, in consultation with the joint health and safety committee. Training on those hazards which are considered to be significant form the requirements for Workplace-Specific training for certified members in that workplace. A hazard is considered to be significant if it has the potential to cause a lost time injury or occupational disease, if not properly controlled.
  • The designated JHSC member will complete the requirements of the identified training needs. A minimum of 5 courses are required to complete the certification process, however JHSC members are welcome to take more.
  • In order to receive final certification, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety will complete the appropriate form confirming the completion of training and send the form to the member for his/her signature. The signed form will then be sent to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to complete the certification process.
The University of Toronto has developed the following seminars for Workplace-Specific Hazard Training for designated members of U of T JHSCs. As required, additional seminars will be added to the list.
