Cryogenics Safety

Objective: To ensure that participants are aware of the general hazards associated with working with cryogenic materials and are familiar with basic precautions to be taken when working with these materials.

Target Audience: Any University Employees or graduate students who work with or will be working with cryogenic materials.

Duration: 1.5 hours

Description:
This seminar presents an overview of some of the hazards faced by users of cryogenic materials. Anyone using cryogenics faces the potential to suffer injury due to asphyxiation, frostbite, eye injury, explosion, and other hazards specific to the gas being used. General precautions to be taken and safety features of equipment to be used are covered, along with information on the U of T Cryogenics Standard.

Topics to be covered include:

  • General information about cryogenic gasses
  • Equipment needed for safely working with cryogenics
  • Personal protective equipment needed
  • Safe transfer procedures
