About Us

As the premier research centre of the University of Toronto dealing with international issues, the Centre for International Studies has a long proven record both in producing and disseminating first-class academic research and in providing highly specialized capacity-building programmes in developing countries.

During the second half of the 1980s, the Centre for International Studies became actively involved in the research of the economic relationships among Canada, the U.S. and Latin American and Caribbean countries. As a result of this increasing interest in Latin American and Caribbean countries, the Programme on Latin America and the Caribbean was created in 1992.

Since its inception, the Programme on Latin America and the Caribbean has been responsible for the implementation of important research and capacity building projects funded by various agencies such as the Tinker Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
