Dr. Michael McGillion is an internationally-recognized researcher in the area of persistent forms of cardiac pain; in particular, pain from refractory angina (RFA). Funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) (2011), he is leading the development and testing of a decision support tool to help RFA patients make difficult decisions about treatment options. A member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Pain Society, Dr. McGillion’s most recent CIHR-funded work (2012) is to lead an integrated, international effort of the cardiovascular and pain communities to disseminate new evidence about persistent forms of cardiac pain via social media. He has published widely in cardiology journals on the nature of persistent cardiac pain problems and the available strategies.
