Travel Information

The 2006 STLHE Conference will be held at Victoria College, University of Toronto. Victoria College is located on the downtown St. George campus. Transportation to Toronto

Air Canada is the Official Airline of the 2006 STLHE Conference NEW!

2006 STLHE @ UofT Convention number for booking flights on Air Canasda: CV061099. This Convention number must be quoted at time of booking, in order to benefit from the discounts. For any fare/ticketing type questions, you may call the Air Canada Convention Reservations at 1-800-361-7585 or 514-393-9494.

Air: Those travelling by air to the conference will fly into Pearson International Airport located in northwest Toronto. Several modes of ground transportation are available from the airport to downtown Toronto, including:

  • Limousine service: Flat fee of $47.00/48.00 CAD

    Pacific Western Airport Express (Airport to Downtown Toronto Service)
    The bus picks up passengers on the Arrivals Level of Terminals 2 & 3 and on the Ground Level of the new Terminal 1 (post #7). All buses are wheelchair accessible and also have front kneeling doors for easier access. This is a 24 hour service. Destinations include the downtown bus terminal, as well as several major downtown hotels. Connecting service to other downtown locations is also available for an additional fee.   • Public Transportation (Toronto Transit Commission/TTC): $2.50 per trip
    TTC - 192 Airport Rocket -
    The 192 Airport Rocket route provides all-day accessible bus service between Kipling Station on the Bloor-Danforth Subway and Pearson Airport. Buses stop only at Kipling Station, Dundas Street & East Mall Crescent, Terminal 3 (Departures Level), Terminal 2 (Arrivals Level) and Terminal 1 (Ground level). Service operates from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., seven days a week. One-way travel time is approximately 20 minutes.
  • GO Transit
    The GO Transit bus shelter is located at Terminal 2 on the Arrivals Level - post 20, and at Terminal 1 on the Ground level - column S2. The Westbound GO Buses takes passengers to central stops in Bramalea and Brampton. The Eastbound GO Busses take passengers to north Toronto including the Yorkdale and York Mills subway stations. Via Rail Canada

We are pleased to announce that we now have a Via Rail Canada conference account - this allows our STLHE community to travel on Via Rail at a discounted fare! Here are the details that pertain to the 2006 STLHE @ UofT Via Rail conference account:

Those traveling by train will arrive at Union Station (located just a short distance south of the University of Toronto campus). Hotels can be reached from Union Station via taxi or by the subway. The Holiday Inn Midtown is located near the St. George subway station on the Bloor line and the Sutton Place Hotel is located near the Wellesley subway station on the Yonge Street line).


Parking

Parking on campus is limited and rather expensive. For those who have rented cars while in town, or who have chosen to drive to Toronto, it is recommended that you leave your cars at your hotel/residence. The hotels have been selected because of their close proximity to the campus and are a short walk from Victoria College.

Restaurants:
Conference delegates will receive a specially-designed restaurant guide in their registration kits highlighting establishments recommended by conference committee members.

The Toronto.com web site provides a wealth of information about restaurants across the Greater Toronto area. The on-line guide is searchable by neighbourhood. See the Annex/UoT, Bloor/Yorkville, Chinatown, and Little Italy sections for restaurants close to the conference site.

Shopping:
Toronto is a great place to shop - and there are countless locations to do so.

  • The Eaton Centre -- Close to campus you will find this large shopping mall, located on Yonge St between Dundas and Queen Sts.
  • Yorkville and Bloor St. West -- Bloor Street (east of Avenue Rd.) and Yorkville (just north of Bloor, east of Avenue Rd.) offer a range of small boutique shops and high end retailers.
  • Kensington Market -- This neighbourhood (west of Spadina, between Dundas and College) offers a mix of fresh food markets and retail stores (including vintage clothing).
  • Queen St. West -- From Yonge St. west, Queen offers a mix of independent and chain retail stores.
