Research Interests

My research interests involve clinical trials and operational research to treat and prevent micronutrient deficiencies, with particular focus on iron deficiency anaemia.

Iron-deficiency anaemia is the most prevalent nutrient deficiency in the world today, affecting as many as 1.5 billion people. Groups at risk include women of child-bearing age, pregnant women, and rapidly growing infants, children, and adolescents. Infants with iron-deficiency anaemia may have nonreversible developmental delay. Using a home-fortification approach, known as 'Sprinkles', my colleagues and I have initiated international collaborations to support research, advocacy and program development in diverse settings including countries in Asia (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Mongolia & Pakistan), Africa (Ghana & Kenya), Latin America and Caribbean (Bolivia, Guyana & Haiti).
