Mail Relay ServiceCNS Network Services offers a mail relay service that will relay mail on behalf of other machines, devices, and applications that are unable to use authenticated SMTP for mail sending. This document outlines the guidelines for using that service and provides the settings for the service. About the Mail Relay ServiceCNS Network Services offers a mail relay service that will relay mail on behalf of other machines, devices, and applications that are unable to do authenticated SMTP for sending mail. To prevent unauthorized mail from being relayed, the service will only accept mail from a list of approved IP addresses. Departments must register their IP address(es) with the service in order to use it. The mail relay service is intended to relay legitimate UofT mail, such as that from UofT networking devices that send automated mail but that do not support authenticated SMTP, from UofT servers that cannot queue mail locally, from UofT servers that generate automated messages, and other similar devices and servers. The mail relay service is not intended for use by personal workstations or applications that support authenticated SMTP. It is also not intended for relaying unofficial, unsolicited bulk mail. CNS Network Service manages the mail relay service and reserves the right to block access without notice from any IP number that disrupts mail delivery or violates UofT IT policies and guidelines.
