Configuring an existing account in Windows Mail

1. Start Windows Mail.

Configuring an existing account in Windows Live Mail

1. Start Windows Live Mail.
2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts...".

Click on the Account Profile you use for UTORmail, (if it's not already the default), and Click the "Properties" button to display the various configuration tabs. Your information may appear similar to this example.

Click on the "Servers" tab, revealing the page where changes are needed.

Change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP):" setting to "smtp.utoronto.ca" Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than UTORmail, (from home for example), you may need to use their SMTP server name. Contact your ISP for this information.

Then check the check box near the bottom left corner labeled "My server requires authentication"

This is the default and should appear as in this screen shot. Click OK.

Here four key changes are needed.
a) Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP):", check the check box that reads, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" and change the port number to "587".
b) Under "Incoming mail (IMAP):", check the check box that reads, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" and change the port number to "993".
If the "server type" is "POP, please use port "995" instead of "993".
Then click the "Apply" button. Then the "OK" button, finally the "Close" button.

Creating a New Account in Windows Mail

1. Start Windows Mail.
2. Click Tools and select Accounts.
3. Click Add and select E-mail Account.
4. In the window that appears, enter Your Name (e.g., Jane Doe) and click Next.
5. In the window that appears, enter @utoronto.ca (e.g., jdoe@utoronto.ca) and click Next.

In the window that appears, Select IMAP in the line beginning with "My incoming mail server..." In the box under "Incoming mail....", enter your mailbox Enter smtp.washington.edu in the box under "Outgoing mail...." Note: If you use an Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than the UTORmail, you need to use the SMTP server name it provides. Contact your ISP for this information. For details, read Using an Outside ISP and About SMTP.

Check the box labeled "Outgoing server requires authentication" Click Next Enter your UTORid in the box next to "Account name:" Enter your UTORid password in the box next to Password: uncheck "Remember password" Click "Next" Check the box labeled "Do not download my e-mail folders at this time" Click "Finish" on the Congratulations page. (But you are not finished yet!) Continue with the directions in the following section.

Checking or Re-configuring Your Existing Settings in Windows Mail Start Windows Mail, if necessary. Click Tools and select Accounts. Select the account you created previously (perhaps just now) and click Properties. Note the six tabs at the top of the page. Click the General tab to reveal a window similar to that pictured below, and make the following entries (or check that yours are correct):
