Configuring Microsoft Windows Live Mail for UTORmailSummary: Microsoft Windows Live Mail (formerly named Windows Live Mail Desktop) is an e-mail client from Microsoft's Windows Live set of products. Quick Reference For Experienced UsersIf you are experienced configuring E-mail client software, just use the values in the Values Summary box below. Otherwise, proceed to the directions for creating a new account.
Configuring an existing account in Windows Live Mail
Click on the "Servers" tab, showing the information in that window. Type in the new "Outgoing mail (SMTP):" server name of "smtp.utoronto.ca". Ensure the check box, "My server requires authentication", is checked, near the lower left corner under the section, "Outgoing Mail Server". The same procedure is used if "POP3" appears in "My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server." Next click on the "Settings" button, revealing the window below. Click on the "Log on using" radio button, and type in your UTORid in the "Account name:" field. Make sure the "Remember password" check box is unchecked. Click OK and then click on the "Advanced" tab showing the next screen. Here four key changes are needed. a) Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP):", check the check box that reads, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" and change the port number to "587". b) Under "Incoming mail (IMAP):", check the check box that reads, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" and change the port number to "993". If the "server type" is "POP, please use port "995" instead of "993". Configuring a new account in Windows Live Mail - under construction
Click on the "Log on using" radio button, and type in your UTORid in the "Account name:" field. Click OK Then check the check box near the bottom left corner labeled "My server requires authentication" Next, click on the "Settings..." button, revealing the following page. This is the default and should appear as in this screen shot. Click OK. Finally, click on the "Advanced" tab, to reveal this screen. Here four key changes are needed. |
