Summary: This document provides specific instructions on how to configure the Mac OS X Mail application provided with Mac OS X for use with UTORmail.
Before You Start
Before you start, please ensure your
UTORid has been
activated, and that you have your @utoronto.ca email address and
UTORmail configuration number handy. Also, be sure you are connected to the Internet before running Mail.
Configuring Mail for UTORmail

* Where "your_UTORid" is replaced by your UTORid.

Setting up your UTORmail account
- Start Mail. If Mail has not been run before, a new account creation wizard will appear, and you'll see a dialog window similar to the one pictured below:
NOTE: If you don't see this dialog it just means that Mail has been run before, and you need to begin here.
Click Continue.
- You'll be presented with the following window:
- For Account Type, select IMAP
- The Account Description, should be UTORmail
- Full Name should be the name you would like to be displayed with your outgoing email.
- Enter your UTORmail email address in the last field.
Click Continue.
- Next, you'll be asked to fill in your incoming mail server information.
- Your Incoming Mail Server should be mailboxNN.utcc.utoronto.ca where NN is your UTORmail configuration number.
- Your User Name should be your UTORid.
- Do not fill in your password here
Click Continue.
Because your password is not present you'll see an error when you click Continue. Simply click Continue again to proceed with the wizard. You'll be able to set the correct values later.
- Next, you'll be asked to configure your incoming mail security:
- Check the box that says Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
- Authentication should be set to 'Password'.
- After making these changes, the window should appear as below:
- Next, you'll be asked to configure your outgoing mail server:
- Outgoing Mail Server should be set to smtp.utoronto.ca
- Check the box that says Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
- For "User Name", enter your UTORid.
- Do not fill in your password here
Click Continue. This step does take a moment to complete.
When the process is complete, you will see the following screen:
Simply click Continue again to proceed with the wizard. You'll be able to set the correct values later.
- Next, you'll see a confirmation screen with the settings you have inputted:
Click Continue.
- Next, you'll be told your account has been created:
Click Done. You should now see the main Mail window.
