Help Protect Your E-mail with Enhanced Security Network Access

• For Account Type, select IMAP
• The Account Description, should be UTORmail
• Full Name should be the name you would like to be displayed with your outgoing email.
• Enter your UTORmail email address in the last field. \\

1. Next, you'll be asked to fill in your incoming mail server information. \\

• Your Incoming Mail Server should be mailboxNN.utcc.utoronto.ca where NN is your UTORmail configuration number.
• Your User Name should be your UTORid.

Click Continue. \\

Because your password is not present you'll see an error when you click Continue. Simply click Continue again to proceed with the wizard. You'll be able to set the correct values later. \\

• Authentication should be set to 'Password'.

Setting up your UTORmail account

1. Start Mail. If Mail has not been run before, a new account creation wizard will appear, and you'll see a dialog window similar to the one pictured below:

NOTE: If you don't see this dialog it just means that Mail has been run before, and you need to continue here.

Click Continue.

For UTORmail, use the following settings:

• For Account Type, select IMAP

At this point you'll need to make some additional changes to get Mail to read your E-mail on UTORmail. The instructions below detail this process.

Creating Your UTORmail Account in Mail

1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences, then (if necessary) click the Accounts item to bring up the accounts preferences panel, pictured below. If you have completed the new account creation process above you should have values similar to the ones listed below. As mentioned before, some of these values will need to be changed.

To set up your UTORmail account, follow these steps:

1. In the New Account Setup window, choose Email Account. Click Next.

2. In the Identity window, type in your name and email address in the appropriate fields as shown below. Click Next.

3. In the Server Information window, choose IMAP. In the Incoming Server field type mailboxNN.utcc.utoronto.ca (where NN is your configuration number). In the Outgoing Server field, type smtp.utoronto.ca (where NN is your configuration number). Click Next.

4. In the User Names window, type your UTORid in the fields for Incoming User Name. Click Next.

5. In the Account Name window, type a name for your account (e.g. "UTORmail" or your "email address"). Click Next.

6. In the final window, confirm all your settings and click Finish. The program will start and ask you for your password.
   
   You may be prompted with the dialog box below, asking if you want to make Mozilla Mail your default mail application. Please make the appropriate selection based on your preference. Usually, clicking on Yes will accommodate most circumstances.

   In the final window, confirm all your settings and click Finish. The program will start and ask for you for your password

Advanced Configuration Information

1. Open Mail, then open the Tools menu and select Account Settings...

2. Ensure there is a checkmark beside Check for new messages at startup.
   
   
3. Then make sure there is a checkmark beside Check for new messages every 15 minutes. The preference to check for new messages should be set to 15 minutes or more but not less.
   • When Mail is used with UTORmail, you will receive notification of new messages very soon after it is delivered to your INBOX. This option will not make such notification any faster or slower. However, when there is a network or post office failure, this option determines how often Mail will try to reconnect.
     
     
4. In the pull-down menu beside When I delete a message, choose Mark it as deleted.
   
   
5. Check Clean up (“Expunge”) Inbox on Exit.
   • This causes your deleted messages to be expunged--so they can no longer be undeleted and no longer take up space at the post office--whenever you exit Mail. We recommend this option to make better use of shared University resources.
     
     
6. Check Empty Trash on Exit.
   

Next click on the Advanced… button to make the following changes.

1. Click on the IMAP tab if it is not already visible in the foreground.
   
2. Remove the checkmark beside Show only subscribed folders.
   
3. Remove the checkmark beside Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages.
   
4. Ensure there is a checkmark beside Use IDLE command if the server supports it.
   
5. The rest of the default settings are adequate
   
6. Click OK
   
7. Click OK again
