NMC 299Y -- Research Opportunity Program
The ROP gives second year students the opportunity to earn course credit while participating in Faculty members' research. See "ROP 299Y Project Listings in the Humanities" information available through Departmental office and College Registrars. Application deadline is usually by March 10.

NMC -- 495Y/496H/497H Independent Studies
Admission to Independent Studies may be granted to advanced undergraduate students majoring or specialising in NMC in the following cases:
1) The case in which an undergraduate student wishes to take a graduate course for undergraduate credit. This is allowed only if the student has completed all undergraduate courses offered by the Department in the requested discipline.
2) The case in which an undergraduate student wishes to take an undergraduate course for which credit has already been received, but the content of which has significantly changed in the meantime.
A special form provided by the Department must be completed by the student in consultation with the instructor involved and submitted to the Department for approval by the Undergraduate Coordinator at least two weeks before the beginning of the term.
Evaluation: To be determined in consultation with the instructor.
NMC 499Y -- Directed Reading
Directed Reading will normally consist of a scholarly project chosen by the student and supervised by an instructor in NMC. Before petitioning for admission to a Directed Reading course, a student must:
1) have completed a minimum of 5 full course equivalents in NMC
2) have an overall grade average of B+
A special form provided by the Department must be completed by the student in consultation with the instructor involved and submitted to the Department for approval by the Undergraduate Coordinator at least two weeks before the beginning of the term.
Evaluation: A major research paper. Details to be determined in consultation with the instructor.
Note: Where appropriate, a student may include more than one Independent Studies and/or one Directed Reading course in his/her programme.
