Our Career Mentorship Program is simply a partnership in career exploration. It gives third and fourth year students the chance to investigate careers with New College Alumni and friends.
We try to match students with Alumni volunteers who are currently employed in areas relevant to their studies.
The program is not designed to get the student a job but rather, it is an opportunity for them to acquire networking skills and to get firsthand experiences from the workplace. In the past years, mentors have spoken to students about their work, and invited them to various activities, such as an office tour, observing a teacher in the classroom or sitting in on presentations in the board room.
Student Eligibility: To participate in the program, a student must have an active email account, for easy communication with their mentor. After a short interview, the student must also be willing to sign a contract stating that if we find a match, they will commit to at least three meetings/contacts with their mentor.
Mentor Eligibility: To participate in the program, a mentor should be an Alumni or friend of the College, who can commit to spending some time with their mentee during the duration of the mentorship program. Because New College is a multi-faculty college, there are a wide variety of fields that the students will be interested in.
Mentors will be matched with students in the Spring each year, and a Reception will be held to introduce the two.
Alumni and friends interested in being mentors should Contact Us and someone will contact you so a brief interview can be scheduled. |
