Social and Networking Events
During the summer and fall of 2008, students had lots of opportunities to get to know each other as well as alumni, recruiters, faculty and staff at the following events:
Orientation’ Career Day, Golf Day, Professional Day, Panel Discussion Days with recruiters, guest speaker events, the Graduation Formal, and the Forensic Accounting Conference described below.
Graduation of MMPA 2008
On November 14th, 54 students graduated from the MMPA Program at the University’s historic Convocation Hall. The reception that followed at Massey College provided a wonderful opportunity for graduates, family and friends to enjoy their achievement, and to listen to Patricia Phan’s valedictory remarks. The graduating class was formally announced in the Globe & the Post and convocation webcast is available on the UofT website.
Outstanding Placement Rates are Expected to Continue
MMPA students continue to be in high demand. For 13 straight years, 100% of our MMPA students have been placed for their coop work term, and we expect this year to be the 14th.

MMPA 2008 Conference on "Forensic Accounting, Internal Control and Corporate Governance: Implications for the Accounting Profession and Research Opportunities " November 28 & 29, 2008
Students, alumni, and faculty heard four expert speakers discuss the present and future experiences and expectations for forensic accountants, auditors and risk managers. Day 1 of the conference ended with a debate between representatives of MMPA 2009 and MMPA 2009. Day 2 was devoted to research presentations for faculty and invited researchers. Understanding International Financial Reporting Standards - A session for educators
On December 15, 2008, the MMPA Program and the University of Toronto Mississauga hosted the second annual IFRS Session for Educators dealing with issues surrounding the integration of international accounting standards into the accounting curriculum. The session was co-sponsored by D & T, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), and the ICAO/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Studies. Over 100 attended.
