The Humanities Initiative at the Munk Centre for International Studies, founded in 2001, specializes in the interdisciplinary study of opera. Initiated by a musicologist (Caryl Clark) and a literary theorist (Linda Hutcheon), the organizing committee has expanded to include a second musicologist (Sherry Lee), and another literature specialist with operatic interests (Katie Larson).  The annual symposium series is co-organized in partnership with the Canadian Opera Company, and are aimed for both an academic and general audience.

 

The Humanities Initiative is in association with The Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, and the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto.
