Visiting Scholars 2005-2006

In 2005-2006, the Program hosted four visiting scholars for one-month periods of research at the University of Toronto.

  • Tetyana Sakharuk, Lecturer at the National University of Internal Affairs, Kharkiv,
    spent October at the Centre doing research on “Fair Justice as a Way of Human Right
    Protection”, which deals with the sentencing system in Canada and other western
    countries.

  • Denys Kuzmin, Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations, Odesa
    National University and Senior Research Fellow and European Studies Program
    Coordinator, Centre for International Studies, spent November working on “Ukraine and
    the Challenges of EU Enlargement: Consequences for Ukraine and Its International Role
    in Europe.”

  • Olga Voloshchenko, Lecturer at Kyiv University of Law, National Academy of Sciences
    of Ukraine, spent February at the Centre conducting research on the influence of religion
    on contemporary lawmaking.

  • Olha Luchuk, Associate Professor of English, Head of the English Department, Ivan
    Franko National University of Lviv, spent March at the University of Toronto
    researching the topic “George Luckyj and his Contemporaries: Research of the Scholar’s
    Correspondence in the Context of Ukrainian Culture”. Her visit was co-sponsored by the
    Kolasky Memorial Fellowship (Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies) and the Petro
    Jacyk Program.
